Summary

Based on maps that covers a period of more than 200 years, it is DCE's assessment that there has probably not been a large, very shallow boulder reef that has extended further out into the Kattegat from Spodsbjerg. However, there is evidence that extensive boulder extraction has taken place for Hundested Harbor in the area off the mouth of the Isefjord and over towards Nøddebo Huse.

Based on an interview with a man extracting boulders from the sea in the late 60’es combined with studies of old maps, it is likely that the boulders have been lying in bed forming structures on the seabed.

DCE has identified an area of 9.97 km2, recommended for a more detailed mapping.  The area should be examined more closely, in order to delimit sub-areas where new boulders can be deployed to ensure a coherent reef habitat with a good quality. In this process, knowledge of existing use of the sea for nature protection, commercial shipping and extraction sites for raw material extraction has been incorporated to avoid spatial conflicts.
