Title: Limitations in renewable energy - a global perspective
Abstract: Easy access to energy is essential for modern life. Fossil fuels still constitute the most important energy source. However, strong efforts are put into the search for alternatives like: hydropower, wind energy, solar energy and geothermal energy. Wind energy and solar energy look most promising. All the above mentioned sources represent natural flows of energy in the climate system.
In my talk I'll describe this flow of energy in nature and put numbers on it. And show that if the total demand for energy will continue to grow for the next century or more at the same rate as in the last 100-200 years we can end up with a significant heating of the system (new energy) or we may interfere too strongly with the natural flow (old energy). I'll describe wind energy situation in more details.
Language: The presentation will be in English.
Location: the presentation will take place at AU Roskilde in the Pavilion.
