Mammal protection during construction work at sea

Bubble curtains can protect marine mammals during construction of wind turbine farms at sea.

Results show that pile driving of monopile foundations at Krieger’s Flak is likely to present a significant impact on harbour porpoises, harbour seals and grey seals in the area, if performed without measures to reduce the radiated noise from the piling.
If, however, an adequate noise abatement system, such as an air bubble curtain, is used, the predicted impact is reduced to a level, where it is assessed to constitute only minor impact on the marine mammal populations in the area and the nearby NATURA2000 sites.
New report out now.
